Dr. Krishan Kumar Bhatnagar, affectionately known as “Murliwala” & “Bansuriwala” among friends and family, has led a remarkable life filled with passion, dedication, and musical brilliance. At 81 years young, Dr. Bhatnagar’s journey from healing animals as a Veterinary Doctor to setting records as a flute maestro is nothing short of extraordinary.
Throughout his 32-year tenure with the State Government of Haryana as Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry, Dr. Bhatnagar tended to various species of animals with care and compassion. However, it was his lifelong love affair with the flute that truly defined his existence.
From a tender age of six, Dr. Bhatnagar received his first flute as a gift from his maternal grandmother. Despite the absence of formal training, he persevered, practicing diligently whenever time allowed. By the age of 18, he mastered playing the haunting melody of the Hindi classic “Hum Bekhudi Mein” from the movie “Kaala Pani,” marking the beginning of his musical odyssey.
As he progressed through life, Dr. Bhatnagar’s flute became his constant companion, serenading audiences at social gatherings, college events, and departmental parties. His proficiency on the flute earned him the endearing moniker “Bansuriwala” from colleagues, a title he wears with pride to this day.
Upon retirement, Dr. Bhatnagar embarked on a new chapter, propelled by his late brother Sushil Kumar Bhatnagar’s
encouragement to pursue something extraordinary in flute playing. With determination and innovation, he recorded over 1000 flute tunes, preserving timeless melodies on YouTube for the world to enjoy.
Despite his age, Dr. Bhatnagar’s passion for music remains undiminished. He continues to captivate audiences with his soulful renditions, playing over ten songs daily to nurture his lifelong love for the flute.
Residing in Shivaji Park, West Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi, Dr. Bhatnagar finds solace in the company of his loving family, who wholeheartedly support his musical endeavors. His collection of over 200 flutes, acquired from various corners of the globe, stands as a testament to his unwavering dedication to his craft.
In recognition of his musical prowess, Dr. Bhatnagar has been honored with the prestigious Harvard World Records London for the most flute tunes uploaded on YouTube by an individual. Additionally, he has received accolades from esteemed organizations such as the Worthy Wellness Foundation and Veyil Foundation.
