• UN Charter

The UN’s founding charter includes a goal of promoting respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all, without distinction based on sex, race, language, or religion. 

• Commission on the Status of Women

Established within the UN’s first year, this body is dedicated to gender equality and women’s advancement. 

• Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW)

Also known as the “Women’s Bill of Rights”, this convention defines discrimination against women and establishes legal obligations for countries to end it. 

• UN Women

This entity works to eliminate discrimination against women and girls, and to achieve equality between women and men. 

• UN Population Fund

This organization discusses the importance of women’s empowerment and autonomy, and how it is essential for sustainable development. 

The UN also has a live-streamed International Women’s Day commemoration each year. 

The speakers for the UN statrgeer also included Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj,Dr.Jaishankar Ministry of foreign affairs ,Datta Raj Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations; Ms. Diene Keita, Deputy Executive Director of UNFPA; Ambassador Andreas Løvold, Deputy Permanent Representative of Norway; Vivek Bharadwaj, Secretary of Ministry of PTG; Pio Smith, UNFPA Asia-Pacific Regional Director;, Alok Prem Nagar, Joint Secretary of Ministry of PRG; and moderated by UNFPA India Representative, Andrea M. Wojnar. Setting the tone, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, stated in her opening remarks, “In response to the aspirations of women in our country, today, out of over 3.1 million elected representatives, more than 1.4 million are women.” The UN defines empowerment as active participation in decision-making, equal opportunity, economic freedom, and the right to give opinions.
