Kochi: The third edition of the Federal Bank Kochi Marathon stood out for its remarkable inclusivity, with the participation of differently-abled individuals. Among them was Abhishek Balloolaya, a native of Kasaragod, who has muscular dystrophy—a condition that severely affects muscle function. Abhishek, an employee at the IT firm Acabes in Kochi’s Infopark, participated in the marathon’s Special Run category, an experience he described as truly joyful.
“This is my first time being part of the Kochi Marathon. All my colleagues have participated in different categories of the run. They brought me here like a family member, ensuring that I could be part of this event. While they took part in the 10 km and 3 km categories, I was able to participate in the Special Run, which makes me really happy,” said Abhishek. The 23-year-old was accompanied by his colleagues and parents as he joined the marathon.
Abhishek’s participation was a proud and fulfilling moment for his colleagues. “Everyone in our company has taken part in the marathon. Along with work, engaging with society is essential, and our company always provides us with such opportunities. We have been preparing for this event for the past two weeks. Our workplace has an inclusive approach, and Abhishek is very much a part of our family,” said his colleague, Nitha A G.
The Federal Bank Kochi Marathon saw the participation of over a hundred differently-abled individuals, including students from special schools, making it a truly inspiring and inclusive event.
