Poona College of Arts, Science, and Commerce in Pune marked the commencement of Anti-Ragging Week on August 12, 2023. This pivotal initiative, thoughtfully orchestrated by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the dedicated members of the Anti-Ragging Committee, was strategically aligned with the global observance of International Youth Day. This confluence of events underscores the institution’s steadfast dedication to the well-being and security of its student community.
Hon. Mr. Arvind Chawariya, Additional Commissioner of Police (Admin) Pune City was the Chief Guest. His enlightening address underscored the importance of anti-ragging measures, elucidating the legal aspects surrounding such actions, and emphasizing the relevance of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act and The Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
Principal of Poona College Professor Dr. Aftab Anwar Shaikh welcomed the esteemed guests and dignitaries. In his insightful address, Prof. Shaikh delved into the theme of International Youth Day: “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World.” He artfully outlined a captivating lineup of competitions and activities slated for the forthcoming week, encouraging students to actively engage and showcase their talents.
Distinguished figures, Mr. Anand Salunke and Mrs. Bhagyashree Salunke, President and Secretary of the Multipurpose Foundation, Pune, graced the event as Guests of Honour, infusing the gathering with a sense of purpose. Their poignant words resonated, urging students to direct their energies toward serving the underprivileged and making meaningful contributions to society. Furthermore, Mr. Bharat Bhima Yede, Assistant Room Officer, Examination — Confidential Room, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, imparted valuable insights to the attentive audience.
The program concluded on a note of national pride with the harmonious rendition of the National Anthem. The resounding success of the event was a direct result of the dedicated efforts of the Anti-Ragging Committee, operating under the sagacious guidance of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Aftab Anwar Shaikh, Vice Principal (Arts) Prof. Moinuddin Khan, and Vice Principal (Science) & IQAC Coordinator Dr. Iqbal Shaikh. The committee, led by Dr. Shirin Shaikh as Chairperson, and comprised members such as Dr. Shakir Shaikh, Dr. Shamshad Ahmed, Dr. Shabana Shaikh, Dr. Aafreen A. Ahmed, Dr. Baba Shaikh, and Dr. Riyasat Peerzade, played a pivotal role in orchestrating this meticulously organized event.
