Marriage Duniya: An Odisha Startup Redefining Matchmaking in India – An Exclusive Interview with Co-Founders Sanjukta Parida and SK Nath

Introduction:
In a country where marriage is not just a union of two individuals but a fusion of families, traditions, and expectations, the process of finding the “right one” has long been complex, emotional, and often exhausting. But what if someone could truly simplify and personalize that experience? Emerging from the heart of Odisha, Marriage Duniya is that very solution—an ambitious startup aiming to transform the way Indians approach matchmaking.

We spoke with co-founders Sanjukta Parida and SK Nath, the minds behind this growing matrimonial platform, to understand how their journey began, what makes their approach different, and why they believe Marriage Duniya is the next big thing in India’s matrimonial space.

Q1: Sanjukta, tell us about the beginning of Marriage Duniya. What inspired you to start this platform?

Sanjukta Parida:
The idea for Marriage Duniya came from my personal experience while working at a local matchmaking agency in Bhubaneswar. I started my career there earning ₹5,000 per month. During my time, I saw firsthand how families were spending huge amounts of money hoping for results, but more often than not, they were left disappointed.

The existing platforms seemed mechanical and impersonal. I realized that many of these services were failing to understand the deeper emotional, cultural, and practical needs of individuals and families. That’s when I felt the urge to create something more meaningful—something that prioritizes people over profiles. That’s how the seed for Marriage Duniya was planted.

Q2: What challenges did you face during the early stages of building Marriage Duniya?

SK Nath:
When we started in 2016, we didn’t have a big team, big budget, or even tech support. What we had was determination. We began as a traditional, offline matchmaking service focused entirely on Odisha. We worked directly with families, meeting them in person, understanding their expectations, and matching people accordingly.

The biggest challenge was convincing people that personalized matchmaking could be more effective than automated platforms. But slowly, as success stories started coming in, people began to trust us. Today, we’re proud to say our assisted marriage approach has a 79% success rate, which speaks volumes about the personalized care we offer.

Q3: How is Marriage Duniya different from other players like Shaadi.com or Bharatmatrimony.com?

Sanjukta Parida:
Those platforms are huge, no doubt. But often, they operate like digital directories—profiles upon profiles, without really helping users figure out compatibility. At Marriage Duniya, we go much deeper. Our approach is personalized, culturally sensitive, and compatibility-focused.

Instead of leaving people to navigate the process alone, we guide them. We focus on values, lifestyle preferences, family background, and even emotional expectations—not just education, income, and photos. We are bringing the human touch back to matchmaking.

Q4: Your brand is now preparing for a major relaunch. What can we expect from this new platform?

SK Nath:
We’ve spent the last few years learning from the ground up. In 2022, we launched our first online version, but we realized it still wasn’t enough. The user experience needed to be better. So, in 2024, we decided to rebuild from scratch.

The upcoming platform will integrate new-age technology with traditional matchmaking wisdom. We’re adding AI-driven match suggestions, personalized compatibility scoring, better user verification, and even relationship coaching modules. This isn’t just a matrimonial site—it’s going to be a matchmaking ecosystem.

Q5: Who is your target audience, and how do you plan to reach them nationwide?

Sanjukta Parida:
Our audience includes young men and women, working professionals, NRIs, and most importantly, their families. We also cater to Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, as well as rural communities, where the need for trusted matchmaking is highest.

We are launching aggressive outreach campaigns—both online and offline—across major cities. Plus, being supported by Startup Odisha has helped boost our credibility and provided a strong foundation for national expansion.

Q6: There’s a strong emotional and cultural aspect to matchmaking in India. How does your platform address that?

Sanjukta Parida:
Exactly! That emotional and cultural depth is what most platforms miss. For us, understanding community practices, caste dynamics, regional preferences, and family expectations is at the heart of our model.

Our matchmakers are trained to engage with families compassionately. The goal isn’t just to “match profiles”—it’s to build relationships that last. We’re also developing community-based filters and interactive tools that help users from similar cultural backgrounds connect better.

Q7: How has the response been so far from Odisha and other states?

SK Nath:
The response in Odisha has been overwhelming. We’ve helped thousands find life partners and earned the trust of families across the state. As we soft-launched our services in parts of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal, we found similar success and realized this model can work across India.

Now, as we prepare to go national, we’re seeing growing interest from cities like Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, and even NRI communities abroad. People are genuinely looking for a more reliable, personalized alternative to the current options.

Q8: What’s next for Marriage Duniya in the coming months?

Sanjukta Parida:
The next few months are crucial. We’re preparing for the nationwide relaunch of our platform, complete with a refreshed brand identity and advanced tech features. There will also be collaborations with influencers and community leaders to promote our unique approach.

We’ll be organizing webinars, offline events, and user education drives to introduce our model to a larger audience. The ultimate goal is simple: to become India’s most trusted personalized matchmaking platform.

Q9: What message do you want to give to readers and prospective users?

SK Nath:
If you’re tired of endless scrolling, fake profiles, and impersonal experiences, give Marriage Duniya a try. We’re building a space where trust, tradition, and technology come together to create meaningful connections.
