Lalbaug Sarvajanik Utsav Mandal, Ganeshgalli is the oldest and most respected Mandal in South Mumbai’s Lalbaug area. The Mandal was established in the year 1928. This is the 92nd year.
In the year 1977, during the golden jubilee year, the mandal made the first 22-feet tall statue of Ganaraya in the whole of India and made the name Lalbaug world famous. Then, during the year of Amrit Mahatsav, a replica of the famous Meenakshi Temple in Madurai, South India was created with emphasis on grand and spectacular decorations. After the Amrit mahotsav year, the 22-feet tall Ganaraya along with the attractive decorations became a symbol of the Mandal. That is why the association “Lalbaug Sarvajanik Utsav Mandal” which means “Tradition of grandeur and cultivation of culture” emerged in the public mind. The festival started with a ‘four anna’ subscription from the people of Lalbaug and the business class and due to their financial support the mandal today has a spacious space for its office. Today, the mandal has the great strength of young workers to carry forward the axis of the Board successfully.
