Susheel Bhardwaj: My name is Susheel Bhardwaj. I began my professional journey working onsite, where I observed the growing government focus on enhancing India’s infrastructure. Recognizing the immense potential in this sector, I was inspired to contribute to transforming what was once largely unorganized into a structured and scalable enterprise. This vision led to the establishment of CivilMantra, which today has over 1,000 active members and a network supporting more than 2,500 families. My guiding principles are commitment, consistency, and excellence — I believe in showing up, putting in the effort, and delivering meaningful results.
Q2: What motivated you to enter this field, and what drives your work?
Susheel Bhardwaj: I was inspired by the opportunity to build, innovate, and make a lasting impact on India’s sustainable development. Infrastructure is foundational to a nation’s progress, and I wanted to contribute to transforming this sector. What drives me every day is the challenge of creating scalable solutions and delivering excellence in services that genuinely make a difference.
Q3: Could you share some of CivilMantra’s notable achievements?
Susheel Bhardwaj: CivilMantra began with a small, passionate team determined to redefine infrastructure consultancy. From pre-bid engineering, we diversified into specialized domains such as tunnel design, contributing to several large-scale infrastructure projects nationwide. Over the years, CivilMantra has grown into a 1,000-member-strong family and achieved Indicorn status in just eight years, reflecting rapid yet sustainable growth. Our strategic acquisition of Saptagon Asia Pvt. Ltd. has further strengthened our portfolio. We have also received numerous industry accolades including Excellence in Design Engineering, Certificate of Commitment by the Central Vigilance Commission, Indian Achievers Award (2023), Professional Service Provider of the Year (2019), Certificate of Appreciation by the Ministry of Finance (FY 2023–24), Best Tech for Transport 2020, Company of the Year 2020, and India Digital Enabler Awards 2020.
Q4: Can you highlight a specific innovation or contribution you’ve made in the industry?
Susheel Bhardwaj: I pioneered the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Information Technology (IT) within the civil infrastructure sector. At CivilMantra, this led to the development of “One stop solution for all bid requirements” i.e ConsultAI, which simplifies tender management, and our in-house HRMS, designed to enhance operational efficiency and workforce management. Embedding AI-driven design and project management systems has transformed how large-scale projects are planned, monitored, and executed. These innovations have improved accuracy, real-time decision-making, and collaboration, setting a new benchmark for infrastructure consultancy in India.
Q5: What major challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?
Susheel Bhardwaj: One significant challenge was high employee turnover. Many trained professionals would leave shortly after joining, which impacted our stability. To tackle this, we introduced a long-term growth and reward program. Employees completing three years receive enhanced benefits and leadership opportunities. Employees with five years of service gain management-level privileges and additional benefits. This initiative improved retention, motivation, and fostered a strong sense of ownership and loyalty, transforming CivilMantra into a true family of committed professionals.
Q6: What is your vision for the future of CivilMantra?
Susheel Bhardwaj: Our vision is to redefine infrastructure consultancy through AI, becoming the first firm to fully leverage ConsultAI for end-to-end project intelligence and decision-making. We are expanding into sectors such as Ropeways, Metros and Urban Infrastructure to address the mobility and connectivity needs of rapidly growing cities. By integrating AI, digital twins, and advanced data analytics, we aim to deliver smarter, faster, and more sustainable infrastructure solutions. Ultimately, our goal is to set a global benchmark in consultancy that is innovative, environmentally responsible, and transformative.

My advice is simple: experiment rapidly and learn from every experience, don’t fear failure, stay curious, think long-term, and keep pushing boundaries.
